Fashion Heel Styles
Kitten heels: is a short, slender heel, shoe. Usually from
3.5 centimeters ( 1.5 inches ) to 4.75 centimeters ( 1.75
inches ) high with a slight curve setting the heel in from the
edge of the shoe. Audrey Hepburn made this style popular.
Stiletto heel: is a long, thin, high heel or boots. It is
named after the STILETTO dagger, the phrase being first recorded
in the early 1930's. May vary in length from 2.5 centimtres
( 1 inch ) to 25 cm ( 10 inches ) or platform sole is used and
are sometimes defined as having a diameter at the ground of
less than 1 cm ( slightly less than half an inch ). Stiletto-
style heels 5cm or shorter are known as kitten heels. A real
stiletto heel has a stem of solid steel or alloy.
Court shoe: ankle straps are usually worn by wpmen, butare
still traditional menswear in some formal situation. Sometimes
called opera slippers or patent pumps. Pumps for women are usually
heeled. The shape is as dictated by the fashion of the time.
The term " pumps" would normally imply flat or low-heel dancing
or ballerina pumps, or even plimsolls. Pumps can be maded from
any material, but traditional Patent leather is popular.
Mostly worn with a suit or a uniform. Also worn with formal
& informal dresses, skirts, trousers, and jeans. A white stiletto
heeled pumps are the standard attire with swimsuits in beauty
pageants. Ballroom dancers use pumps made of satin, usually
tan, though other colors are made, worn on both the pratice
floors and the competition.
Mule: french word. Mule is a style of shoe that is backless
and often closed-toed. Can be any heel height- ranging from
flat to high. The style is predominantly worn by women. The
term derives from the Ancient Roman mulleus calceus a
red or purple shoe worn by the three highest magistrates, although
there is little indication of any structural resemblance.
In the early 1950's, Marilyn Monroe made this style popular,
and helped to break its poor reputation.
Spool heels: are characterized by an hourglass shaped heel,
thick at both ends and thin in the middle.
Clear heels: Lucite heels. sometimes referred to as stripper
shoes, are high-heeled footwear made from a transparent material.
Clear heels may be used to contain novelty items such as liquids,
flashing lights, or even fish.
